There are shows you enjoy, shows you recommend, and then there are the rare productions that completely pull you in from the very first moment. Disney’s Hercules Musical was absolutely one of those for me.
As a big theatre fan, I’ve seen a wide range of productions over the years, but in terms of pure production value, sets, props, staging, and visuals, this one genuinely stood out. Everything felt magical in the best possible way, from the music and choreography to the lighting, costumes, and overall design. They were genuinely impressive. Scene changes were smooth and almost cinematic, while still keeping that live theatre magic that makes stage productions so special. There were moments where I found myself genuinely wondering how certain effects or transitions were achieved.
And then there are the Muses.
Leslie Beehann as Calliope (my favourite) and the rest of the ensemble completely stole the show. Acting as narrators throughout, they brought so much life and personality to the production. Their vocals were outstanding, and their chemistry lit up every scene they were in. Every time they appeared, they completely elevated the energy in the room. It’s the kind of performance that really sticks with you long after you’ve left the theatre.
That said, the whole cast were fantastic. Every performer brought great energy and heart to it, and you could feel that from beginning to end. Stephen Carlile as Hades was a real standout, he played the villain with a great mix of charm, humour, and control, making every scene he was in really engaging. And Felipe Bejarano as Hercules brought a really warm, likeable energy to the role that grounded the story nicely.
What I appreciated most about Hercules is that it fully embraces what musical theatre should be: fun, visually striking, and genuinely entertaining from start to finish. Whether you’re a Disney fan, a regular theatre-goer, or just looking for a great night out, it’s a strong recommendation.
Zero complaints. This show really went the distance… and yes, that pun was absolutely intentional.
Also, a quick mention for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane itself, absolutely stunning venue. It genuinely feels like stepping into a piece of theatre history and real sense of royalty as soon as you walk in. Loved it!
