BUZZING BRISTOL GETS INTO THE FESTIVE SPIRIT

Thursday December 6, 2012 by Alex Wood

Buzzing Bristol always has plenty to offer but at this time of year there is so much to see and do that you'll need to extend your stay to fit it all in!

Nature lovers will be enthralled by a visit to Westonbirt, the heritage landscape with its internationally renowned tree collection and fantastic location for playing, walking, relaxing and learning about nature. Westonbirt is of course home to the National Arboretum, one of the finest collections of temperate trees and shrubs in the world and offers an unforgettable day out all year round but every Friday, Saturday and Sunday up to the 23rd of December they're holding Enchanted Christmas evenings with a one mile trail of trees illuminated against the winter night sky! There's also festive craft activities, a Father Christmas and a traditional merry-go-round, and every evening a different choir or band come along to sing and entertain the public. Wow!

The ever-popular German Christmas Market is open in Bristol Shopping Quarter this year from 9 November to 29 December where shoppers can enjoy the 40 chalet market stalls selling traditional crafts, gifts and mouth-watering festive German food and drink. From Sunday 2 December to 24 December an advent calendar window will be opened daily at 4pm and Santa will be giving away free presents to some lucky children.

If you have some film buffs with you why not go to one of the alfresco screenings of the classic Christmas film ‘Father Christmas' for FREE on the Big Screen in At-Bristol's Millennium Square on the 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd of December. ‘Father Christmas' is a story of what it is really like to be Father Christmas.? Raymond Brigg's grumpy but lovable Father Christmas is the star of a hilarious animated film with actor and comedian Mel Smith providing the voice of Father Christmas.

For more avant-guarde entertainment in December the legendary Christmas Spiegeltent lands in Bristol with an eclectic line up of music, comedy and entertainment. Acts include the Ukele orchestra of Great Britain, LoveFood festival, comedians Hal Cruttenden, Paul Chowdhry and Mark Olver, the Swing Dance Christmas party, Craig Charles and the Fantasy Funk Band and the indy band British Sea Power. Altogether there are 21 days and nights of entertainment with something to appeal to everyone.

Bristol Aquarium is an all year round treat located in the famous Bristol harbour, where you can come and admire tropical sharks, beautiful seahorses and be amazed by the undersea tunnel but on 22nd December they're wishing everyone a Merry Fishmas! Come and enjoy the festive season at Bristol Aquarium and find out what the fish eat for fishmas dinner, make a Christmas Coral Wreath or search for Charlie the Christmas Clownfish! Bristol Aquarium offers savings of £2 per person if you pre-purchase your day ticket online and enjoy hassle free entry into the Aquarium.
