MISS GODIVA, MISTER HOOD!
Thursday August 1, 2013 by Marietjie Snyman
He's got her in his sights...
...and if Nottingham's most famous son, Mr Robin Hood had by some mysterious chance made the acquaintance of Coventry's lovely Lady Godiva, we're sure that they would have gotten on, despite them living some 50 miles apart!
They would almost certainly have had a shared passionate interest in the unfair taxation of the poor for a start! As we all now know Lady Godiva's naked protest against her husband's unfair taxation of their townsfolk proved very successful as indeed did Robin's band of Merry Men. We're not sure if a certain Maid Marian would have been quite as happy...
Were you aware that the very same Lady Godiva gave rise to the now famous expression “A Peeping Tom” for a man having snuck a sly peek during her ride? Happily In central Coventry you can now observe the Lady on her horse without fear of censure!
Coventry is most famous for its three spires, (as well as for its ribbonmaking, watchmaking and motor industries ) and entering the Medieval ruins of the Coventry Cathedral will offer you a wealth of exciting history and beautiful photo opportunities. So there's clearly no longer any need for you to be "Sent to Coventry!” Take a "peep" at our selection of serviced apartments for somewhere to stay in this lovely city.
Modern day Nottingham’s compact city centre, pedestrianised streets and tram system make it very easy to get around, and with Nottingham playing host to the annually held Nottingham Riverside Festival , on the 2nd ,3rd and 4th of August at the Victoria Embankment.
